Use a jetty or shore temporarily

You may temporarily use a jetty or shore outside someone’s private residential area, but the owner’s need to use their jetty takes priority and you must keep respectful distance from the home.

When may I use someone else’s jetty or shore in Sweden?

You may temporarily use a jetty outside the home privacy zone, but must leave if the owner needs it. A jetty inside someone’s private residential plot is not covered by the Right of Public Access.

Home privacy zones are case-specific and this guide does not invent a fixed distance.

Outside the private plot

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency states that a jetty may be used temporarily when it lies outside someone’s private plot.

The owner has priority

If the owner needs the jetty, you should leave.

The privacy zone also applies by water

Proximity to a home and the resident’s privacy determine whether an area is within the home privacy zone.

Show consideration

Brief, low-impact use is more consistent with the Right of Public Access than occupying a place for a long time.
